Sin City 2?
March 9th, 2010 | Posted by Annie

They are still figuring out who will star in sequel..

The rumour mill has been working overtime on who will star in the movie. Some of the actors and actresses from the first film will reprieve their roles for the second film: Jessica Alba will once again play Nancy Callahan, Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Gail, and Clive Owen will return as Dwight. Although Bruce Willis’ character Hartigan was killed in the first film, the actor has commented that he’d love make a re-appearance should his character feature in any future stories. This could mean a prequel film or possible flashback scenes.

Josh Hartnett had a cameo role in the first movie as The Colonel, but his character will feature even more in the second film. It is still to be confirmed though whether he will actually be reprising the role. Mickey Rourke, who played lead character Marv, is stalling on whether to reprise the role, citing the main reason behind his hesitation was having to spend three hours in make-up again. Frank Miller is hopeful Rourke will be convinced telling an interviewer from SHH, “He has a pretty big role. I hope Mickey plays it.”

New Characters, New Film Stars: Rumours have been circling for a while on who else will be starring in the sequel. The main name on everyone’s lips in Angelina Jolie. Should she accept she will star as Ava Lord, the female star of A Dame to Kill for (Book two). If Jolie doesn’t accept the role then it may be handed to Salma Hayek, Rachel Weisz or Rose McGowan instead.

Expect to also see either Antonio Banderas or Johnny Depp make an appearance as Wallace, the protagonist from Hell and Back (Book seven). It’s rumoured that a third film will revolve around this book entirely.

Irish Film & TV Festival. Josh presented the Best Actress Award:

And videos of Josh at the Festival. Includes clips of Josh on the red carpet and interviews:

Josh at the Bafta’s Afterparty at Momo in London. He stayed until the end, being one of the last to leave and appearing a bit worse for wear. Josh stumbled upon a parked taxi which was already occupied by a woman. He whispered something into her ear and then climbed into the back of the taxi.

Okay, so he legit only has one shirt. He’s been wearing that plaid shirt for days lol.

Josh going to Dublin
February 10th, 2010 | Posted by Annie

Josh will be heading to Dublin, Ireland to take part in the annual Irish Film and Television Awards ceremony at the end of this month.

It won’t be Hartnett’s first time on Irish soil. His father is Irish American, and Hartnett told the Sunday World he’s been to the country many times before.

“I’ve been to the south west coast a few times because that’s where my family is from originally, around the Dingle Peninsula,” he said. “My father is half Irish and I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Ireland.”

According to the World, Hartnett will mix a bit of business with pleasure during his time in Dublin, meeting with film executives about film projects possibly based in Ireland.

The awards ceremony is set for February 20. Among those nominated are the usual suspects, including Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan, and international stars such as Robert Downey Junior and Meryl Streep.

Bunraku Producer Interview
February 7th, 2010 | Posted by Annie

I think I posted this a while before, but it came up on my google alerts recently.  It is an interview with “Bunraku” producer, Ram Bergman and his thoughts on shooting a film in Romania. It is a nice read.

The $25m action-adventure film starring Demi Moore and Josh Hartnett shot at Media Pro Studios in Romania for 12 weeks in summer 2008. The film is produced by director Guy Moshe’s Los Angeles-based Picturesque Films, Los Angeles-based Ram Bergman Productions and is fully financed by Keith Calder’s Los Angeles-based Snoot Entertainment.

Why did you choose to shoot in Romania?
We needed a lot of stages available because the whole movie is green-screen and we had to build 30-something sets. We needed to take control of a space for five months.

What were your cost savings?
It was probably 10%-20% cheaper than Prague. We did not want to pay top dollar, like you would pay in London or, to a lesser degree, in Prague or Hungary. Bulgaria and Serbia are potentially 10% cheaper than Romania.

Did you use local crews or bring in crew?
We brought in heads of departments but the rest of the crew was Romanian.
But at the time the dollar was so weak that flying in and paying crew then from the US was as cheap as hiring people from elsewhere in Europe.

Which local person or company was indispensable?
Media Pro Studios. It had the most stages available and it made us a deal that was fair and within our budget.

What advice would you give a producer considering a shoot in Romania?
You need to expect certain things are not going to go in the most typical way. Set up your goals and expectations, what you’re willing to spend, and what you expect to get in return, and you’ll be fine. Also, if you’re shooting at Media Pro and you’re staying in Bucharest, you’re going to have a long drive and you’ll lose part of every day.

Would you shoot in Romania again?
Yes. I’m exploring making another movie there in two months.
