Candids from Sundance
January 22nd, 2008 | Posted by Annie |
I just finished my exams, so I’ll be tidying and refining some pages around Lucky Number Josh.
Anyways, there are new pictures of Josh at Sundance in the gallery. These are candids from parties and backstages. Josh seems to be having fun and as usual he is puffing away (he should really stop).
The premiere screening of August is today, so we should be getting more new photos and portraits.

And an extra bit from NY Daily News:
We’d rather watch Josh Hartnett kick vampire butt than play a serious role, but we can’t blame him for having aspirations. At Hyde this weekend, the actor was so engrossed in conversation with director Oliver Stone that Hartnett barely noticed the parade of honeys coming up to say hello.

It’s a Freebie Deluge & August Still
January 19th, 2008 | Posted by Annie |
Another new still from the movie August. I’m really looking forward to watching the trailer. Currently, there aren’t any pictures of Josh at the Sundance Film Festival. But here is a snippet about the festival, regarding to Josh:
January 17, 2008 — THE swag suites at Sundance are over-the-top this year. Felicity Huffman, Josh Hartnett, Jack Black and others will be gifted with iPhones, iPods, PlayStation gaming consoles, designer bags and boutique jewelry. A lucky few will also walk away with a four-day stay in Portugal’s Duero Wine Valley, courtesy of Aquapura Hotels.
Now for the still:

Thanks to Karo for the news.

The Irresistible Urge to Film New York as Gritty
January 19th, 2008 | Posted by Annie |
by Jennifer Lee. Posted on: 18th January, 2008
This film (August), which your City Room reporter previewed before the New Year, periscopes into the life of the chief executive of a Silicon Alley dot-bomb in August 2001. It is a movie about hubris, both that of the C.E.O., played by Josh Hartnett, and the United States in the weeks before Sept. 11. There is one shot in which Mr. Hartnett wakes up woozy from a chemically enhanced night at the then-newly opened Bungalow 8, then is shown on the street against the backdrop of the World Trade Center. August has many of the little touches of the era right. There is a cameo by Jason Calacaniss, the Silicon Alley magazine founder, who seemed to be everywhere in those days. The employees at the doomed company compulsively check a Web site with an unprintable name that covers imploding start-ups, their impending layoffs and their large burn rates.
“One of the things that struck me when I got the script was that it captured that time period, when it was such a specific moment in our recent history,” said Austin Chick, the director, who had friends who were in involved in the Silicon Alley craze. ”The dot-com bubble had already burst in March of 2000 and continued to plummet through that summer. It had been crashing for a while, yet there was still this strange sense that it was going to turn around.”
“It was this really surreal time that somehow seemed to be lasting longer that it deserved and then 9/11 happened and everything changed,” said Mr. Chick, whose first Sundance film, “XX/XY,” played just months after Sept. 11 in 2002. “It is a period of our history that hasn’t been examined because the events of 9/11 overshadowed that.”
Thanks to Kate for the article.

August First Review
January 18th, 2008 | Posted by Annie |
Thanks to Kate for finding the first review of August. [SOURCE]
Directed by Austin Chick; Written by Howard A. Rodman
Starring: Josh Hartnett, Adam Scott, Naomie Harris, Robin Tunney, Andre Royo, Emmanuelle Chriqui, David Bowie, Rip Torn.
As I watched the sophomore effort from Austin Chick (XX/XY), I kept thinking that this was the kind of movie that would go over much better at the Tribeca Film Festival than at Sundance, because it’s such a New York City story with people who any New Yorker who has spent any time in a lower Manhattan bar in the years since the internet boom of the ’90s will have encountered. Set in the world of Wall Street pre-9/11—there’s a brief glimpse of the World Trade Center to set the tone—it’s the story of two brothers, Josh Hartnett’s Tom Sterling, the aggressive and arrogant CEO of a start-up internet company called Land Shark, and his brother Josh (Adam Scott), the real brains of the project who is trying to balance a new family with his brother’s attitude and ambitions……..
