Shawn Yue and Josh Hartnett
April 26th, 2008 | Posted by Annie

Two more “On-the-Set” pictures of Josh with Shawn Yue in Hong Kong last year filming “I Come with the Rain”.
Shawn Yue is a Hong Kong actor. In “I Come with the Rain”, he is plays Meng Zi, a police officer who helps Kline (Josh’s character) find Shitao (Takuya Kimura).

Also, TFI International, a producing company of “I Come with the Rain” has updated the synopsis page of the film.

Kline, an ex-cop in Los Angeles traumatized by slaying a serial killer, is hired by a powerful corporate boss to go to the Philippines and find Shitao, his missing son. Kline’s leads take him to Hong Kong. Torn between good and evil, caught in the crossfire between a mafia drug ring and the police, he tracks down Shitao, who has become a mysterious vagrant.

Shot on state-of-the-art HD and featuring music by Radiohead and Gustavo Santaolalla (Babel, Brokeback Mountain), this modern thriller explores the fine line between carnal passion and violence and plunges us into an exotic urban world of gritty realism and sensual beauty.

First look at “Bunraku” & Gackt joins “Bunraku”
April 24th, 2008 | Posted by Annie

According to IMDB, Gackt has joined the cast of “Bunraku” as Yoshi, the partner of Josh.
You can read more about this here.

Gackt is a popular musician and actor in Japan. You can learn more about him at Wikipedia.

Here is some info on Guy Moshe, the director of Bunraku:

My next film is called BUNRAKU and it is an action-fantasy circus ride into man’s fascination with violence. It has a sort of a Spaghetti Western, samurai movie feel and it’s going to be built and shot entirely on a stage so it couldn’t be more different than HOLLY, maybe 180 degrees from it actually. Like HOLLY, it also aspires to go a little beyond the pure entertainment factor, but I think that, all in all, I would like to be the kind of filmmaker who can tell and make more than one story or one type of genre. I feel like in the past an auteur was a person who constantly challenged himself, where, today, because of the fierce competition and growing difficulty of making different and unique films, filmmakers can get stuck in a certain style and movie genre and keep recreating the same films. It takes two years of your life to make a movie, and to me that’s priceless. If I am gonna spend that kind of time pouring my blood and tears into it, then I wanna make sure I learn something on the way. That is what life is all about anyhow, I guess, growing and learning and then realizing you know nothing at all.

And lastly a new picture of Josh with Gackt in “Bunraku”. How great does Josh look! and totally loving his style there.

Thanks to Laura and Amana for the picture and article.

“Bunraku” News & 30 Days of Night Script
April 19th, 2008 | Posted by Annie

Gabriel kindly translated the Romanian article I posted a while ago.

Demi Moore will shoot in Romania in Bunraku, a movie based on a 400 years old Japanese puppet theatre show. A mix of spaghetti-Western-samurai-gangster types, the movie is currently shot at Mediapro Pictures studios and the actress plays with one of the sexiest Holywood actors, Josh Hartnett, who’s playing the leading role.

Famous for his parts in Pearl Harbor, Lucky Number Slevin, Sin City and a good friend of Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett announced he will start shooting in Romania in the beginning of February. The producers stressed that details like the appearance of a high caliber star like Demi Moore and the part she will be playing be kept secret, for security reasons.

Josh Hartnett will play a gypsy that lives in an unreal world. The actor’s staff made him acquainted with the city nightlife to make him relaxed. Last Saturday he was seen in Fratelli club where he had a good time until around 5am with Iulia Vantur and Marius Moga, Cristina Cioran, Tania Budi and DJ Wanda. The star will be in Romania for 4 months.

Wow. Josh will be in Romania until July!

I also made the information page of 30 Days of Night. Click here to check it out.
Kate also found the screenplay for 30 Days of Night. For those who are interested, you can read it here. It is in pdf format.

Demi Moore joins “Bunraku”
April 18th, 2008 | Posted by Annie

So, it is official, Demi Moore has joined the cast of “Bunraku”.

Demi Moore will follow that up with Snoot Entertainment’s “Bunraku” which Guy Moshe will pen and direct. The story follows a man (Josh Hartnett) on a revenge quest who finds himself in an even bigger fight than he bargained for.

Moore plays the enslaved concubine of a warlord who is forced to marry her captor, whilst Woody Harrelson plays a bartender.

The project mixes puppets, origami, comic books, video games and German expressionism. Shooting commences this month in Philadelphia.

“I Come with the Rain” Trailer
April 17th, 2008 | Posted by Annie

THE TRAILER IS OUT!! And it looks fantastic – I’ve never seen Josh do something like this before. From the trailer, you can tell that Josh is going to really shine. The other casts are great too. I’m totally obsessed with the trailer, it’s so cool to see Hong Kong on screen in a Josh movie. The trailer is shockingly bloody and very dark. The shots are beautifully filmed and I just can’t wait to see this movie.

Tidbits about the trailer and Josh from Twitch:

When acclaimed Vietnamese director Tran Ahn Hung first announced that he was planning to make a major change of pace with his next film I doubt any of his fans expected that the director of Cyclo and Scent of Green Papaya would come up with something like this.  His latest film, the globe trotting, international thriller I Come With The Rain, stars Josh Hartnett alongside huge Korean star Lee Byung Hyun.  Part manhunt, part crime thriller, part supernatural charged existential angst, this looks to be incredibly charged stuff and my hope has been that this would finally be the film that gave Hartnett the chance to truly shine, the picture’s noir leanings playing perfectly to his strengths as an actor…

….  Hartnett looks to be in career best form – yes, I know many of you will say that’s faint praise, but I think the guy can be quite good when well matched to the material, which he clearly is here….

…. The visual are by turns hypnotic and deeply disturbing, provoking audible reactions from me on a handful of occassions.

Source: TwitchFilm.com

And here is the synopsis once again with some mention of the art direction:

Shot in High-Def and looking stylish as all heck, I Come With the Rain stars Josh Hartnett among many Asian head-liners like Takuya Kimura from Japan, Korea’s Lee Byung-hun and Hong Kong’s Shawn Yue. This will be Tran’s first English language film and it’s shot mostly in Honk Kong, with a bit in LA and the Phillipines. “Ex-Los Angeles cop turned private eye Kline travels to Hong Kong in search of Shitao, the missing son of a chinese billionaire. Enlisting Meng Zi a friend and a former colleague now working for the Hong Kong Police, Kline follows a faint trail left by the ethereal Shitao. The path leads to local gangster Su Dongpo and his beautiful, drug addicted girlfriend Lili. But Kline is distracted from his search, haunted by memories of the serial killer Hasford whose ‘body of work’ was the reason Kline quit the police force.”

Okay. Enough text… You can watch the trailer online at TwitchFilm.com. The trailer is around five minutes long. The ICWTR online trailer’s audio is NOT synced to the visuals. But I edited the video to make the audio sync with the actions and you can download this version by clicking the thumbnail below:

I will make screencaptures of the trailer as soon as the HQ version is released. Anyways, the teaser poster is released:
