Hartnett to Star in McGuigan’s Tomorrow
August 13th, 2010 | Posted by Annie

GUYZ!!! Josh has a new film lined up and it’s directed by………… Paul McGuigan!!

Worldview Entertainment has teamed up with producer Mark Williams and Zero Gravity Management to finance the sci-fi thriller, “Tomorrow”, which will be directed by Paul McGuigan and star Josh Hartnett. McGuigan is a renowned UK filmmaker who has directed several fan favorites, most recently the sci-fi action movie, “Push”. Hartnett has starred in several blockbuster hits over the last decade including “Pearl Harbor” with Ben Affleck and Ridley Scott’s intense war film, “Black Hawk Down”.

“Tomorrow” is a sci-fi thriller in the vein of “Memento” about a man who travels back and forth through time and space, trying to prevent the murder of his family. Written by Michael Gould, the film is scheduled to commence principal photography later this year in Louisiana. The film will be the third collaboration for McGuigan and Harnett who have previously worked together on “Lucky Number Slevin” with Bruce Willis, Lucy Liu and Morgan Freeman and “Wicker Park” with Rose Byrne and Diane Kruger.

Simon Crowe’s SC Films International will handle foreign sales.

Here is the synopsis of this sci-fi/thriller film, “Max Martin is desperate to save his family on the day of their murder but he can’t control the short-term time travel phenomenon he’s trapped in.”

Let’s be realz, I’m not gunna hide my excitement for this film. I’m a fan of time-travel movies. And another Paul McGuigan and Josh collaboration should be good (cross fingers). I lurved “Lucky Number Slevin” (it’s why this site is called Lucky Number Josh!) and I also enjoyed “Wicker Park”. And it seems to be pretty solid in terms of finance, so hope it gets a wide distribution.

The plot sounds pretty interesting too, though it seems sorta similar to some of the other time-travel/ changing history movies. I’m assuming his character is going to have trouble saving his family fast enough, who are gunna get murdered tomorrow, and he jumps back in time before he can finish. So he probs has to do it a few times to get it right (like “Groundhog Day”), or maybe he changes different parts of his life/events (like “The Butterfly Effect”), but still fails. The ‘not being able to control his time-travel’ thing reminds me of “The Time Traveler’s Wife”. Regarding to the film being similar to “Momento”, as in the non-linear narrative structure? Or that Max has memory problems so he forgets what he has been doing midway lol?

Anyways, let’s hope that it’s gunna be exciting, like… Run Lola Run. Let’s also hope that my assumptions are not entirely accurate and that “Tomorrow” will have a cool twist. Here is the promo poster…

OH! and in other news, “I Come with the Rain” will premiere in Moscow, Russia on September 2nd at the Empire Open Cinema Film Festival 2010. It’s good to see that people are still working on distributing this film, although the DVD is out already.
