South Korea’s Pusan International Film Festival, one of Asia’s top festivals, will open with a local drama, organizers said Tuesday, highlighting the resurgence of the country’s movie industry.
The event from Oct. 8 to Oct. 16 in the southern beach resort will start with the world premiere of director Jang Jin’s “Good Morning President,” about the lives of three fictitious South Korean presidents, organizers said in a statement. The festival will close with the Chinese spy thriller “The Message,” directed by Taiwan’s Chen Guo-fu and China’s Gao Qunshu. The 9.9 billion South Korean won ($8 million) festival will screen 355 movies from 70 countries-98 of which will be world premieres.
“Pearl Harbor” star Josh Hartnett will promote his thriller “I Come with the Rain” at the festival. “X-Men” director Bryan Singer will discuss the horror film “Trick ‘r Treat,” which he produced. Chinese rocker Cui Jian will introduce “Chengdu, I Love You,” a collaboration with Hong Kong independent director Fruit Chan and South Korea’s Hur Jin-ho. French director Costa Gavras and Venice Film Festival winner Jia Zhangke will give master classes.
