“Dancehall” film - new film for josh?
May 15th, 2010 | Posted by Annie |
A star of “Avatar,” the most commercially successful movie of all time, plus Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn and heartthrob actor Josh Hartnett will appear in a film version of a mystery novel by a local writer that is being readied for shooting in the Capital Region and Lake Placid this summer, according to the producers.
“Dancehall,” adapted from the 1982 novel of the same name by Bernard F. Conners of Loudonville, is about to go into preproduction in anticipation of eight weeks of filming set to begin in late June. The director, who also adapted the novel for the screen, is Ballston Spa resident Tennyson Bardwell. His second feature film, “The Skeptic,” shot locally four years ago with co-stars Tim Daly and Tom Arnold, received a big-city release last spring.
“Predicated on finalizing the funding and related details, we’re ready to proceed,” said Niskayuna resident Ed Graham, who is producing the film and arranged the rights to the Conners novel, previously held by director Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope studio. Graham, a health-care executive, is also a composer, singer and actor.
Burstyn, who won an Academy Award for 1974’s “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” and has been nominated for five other Oscars, has committed to the project, Graham and Bardwell said. Columbia County resident Stephen Lang, who played the corporate mercenary Miles Quaritch in “Avatar,” is also aboard, they said. Lang confirmed as much during a recent online chat with readers of the British film magazine Empire, saying, “I’m doing a picture called ‘Dancehall’ in June.”
Advanced negotiations are under way with Hartnett; Bardwell said he fully expects the 31-year-old actor, whose credits include “Black Hawk Down” and “Pearl Harbor,” to be in “Dancehall.” In another local connection, the Los Angeles casting agent working on “Dancehall” independently recommended casting Chris Riggi, son of the prominent Saratogians Ron and Michele Riggi. The 24-year-old Riggi, who performed at Homemade Theater in Saratoga Springs and studied acting in college, appeared last year on six episodes of “Gossip Girl,” a hit TV series on The CW network.
Hartnett is slated to play the film’s main character, David Powell, who becomes ensnared in a mystery/thriller/courtroom drama after a young woman’s perfectly preserved body emerges after 20 years from the depths of Lake Placid. Lang plays an investigator looking into the case, and Burstyn’s character is Powell’s mother-in-law. The film will be set in 1962, when the young woman disappears, and 1982, when her body is found in the lake. Conners’ novel was inspired by a real incident: In 1933, Mabel Douglass, founder and the first dean of New Jersey College for Women — now Douglass College, part of Rutgers University — disappeared after a solo outing in a rowboat on Lake Placid. Her body, found by divers 30 years later, was intact while underwater but partially disintegrated after being brought to the surface.
Locations will include the village of Lake Placid, on the lake and underwater, a Loudonville estate and Albany restaurants, the producers said. Key scenes will be filmed in the historic, Colonial-style Essex County Courthouse in Elizabethtown, built in 1824, they said.
Graham said the budget for “Dancehall” is in line with similar independently produced films, in the $5 million range.
Conners, saying he believed novelists who involve themselves in film adaptations of their work become meddlesome, would say only, “I really feel it’s best for authors to stay out the process.”
In addition to being a novelist and former FBI agent, Conners owns the Latham-based conglomerate British American, which has holdings in real estate, property development, construction, publishing and movies. British American Entertainment has produced three TV films: the 2000 miniseries “Nuremburg,” starring Alec Baldwin, and, from 1997, the mystery “Our Mother’s Murder” and “Joe Torre: Curveballs Along the Way,” about the current Los Angeles Dodgers and former New York Yankees manager.

Bunraku Photos & Kid Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness
November 30th, 2009 | Posted by Annie |
Two ‘behind the scenes’ photo of Josh on the set of Bunraku. “Bunraku” comes out in Turkey in Spring 2010.

And I posted this before… Josh is the producer of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” music video. Brody Baker, who directed the T-magazine takes is also the director of this MV. To watch Josh’s segment of the T-takes, click here.
Cudi talks about his new MV and about Josh in an interview. Click HERE to watch the interview.
MTV News caught up with Cudi on his final day of filming for the HBO series and he explained how he got Hartnett to produce and Baker to direct his next video. “I was actually telling Josh that I wanted to shoot the video. We were hanging out one day, and he [Hartnett] was like, ‘Aw, I know this one guy, he’s done great work. He’s really dope and refreshing.’ I was familiar with his stuff. He [Baker] did the music video for Animal Collective’s ‘My Girls,’ and I was a fan of that video.”

I finally got to watch ICWTR. My feelings are mixed. It is definitly a different kind of film I’m used to seeing. I found the plot hard to follow and the English spoken by the Asian actors seemed very forced. But still, it was a good watch and I do recommend you guys to check it out.

Gunslinger News & Poster
November 5th, 2009 | Posted by Annie |
Lots of new news on Gunslinger. Here is an updated and more detailed synopsis:
In 2012 the world economy collapses.
In 2014 all first world governments crumble.
In 2015 the power and lights go out.
2018, Wisconsin, USA. Communities live in fear, protected by paid gunmen. We cut to Jake (former engineer) now hunting for food to feed his family. He sees smoke in the distance and realises that it is
his home. A gang, led by the psychopath Brody, has attacked and murdered his family.
Seeking revenge, he enlists his ex-military brother ‘Sev’ (Josh Hartnett) to track and hunt the killers.
A series of snowmobile chases, shootings and deaths lead us to a climatic showdown in a nearby town. Jake and Sev must take on the whole town in a big finale shootout, aided by local barmaid ‘Kate’ (Anna Anissimova).

An article that mentions the producer and actress attached, the finance and production of the film:
Simon Crowe’s ambitious new outfit SC Films has closed a slew of deals on its Josh Hartnett vehicle Gunslinger in advance of the AFM. The $16 million post-apocalyptic thriller, has now been pre-bought by Wild Bunch for Germany and Benelux, Scandbox for Scandinavia, Odeon for Greece, and ECS for the Middle East
Shooting is due to begin early next year on the project, which is backed by financier Future Films. Chris Nahon will direct, Mark Williams (The Cooler) is the producer and Anna Anissimova will star alongside Hartnett.
Targeted at the 14 to 30 year old audience, Gunslinger is set in the near future, after the world economy has collapsed, governments have crumbled and the power and lights have gone out. Hartnett is to play Jake, a former engineer, out for revenge against the psychopathic killers who murdered his family.
“The pre-sale market is not dead for the right movie,’ an upbeat Crowe declared in Santa Monica this week.“Distributors are going to be cautious because cash flow is the really problem for everyone, but if they see a movie that has potential to be profitable on all the different levels of release, then buyers are going to buy.”

And lastly, a poster (already!) for Gunslinger. Josh looks like what he did in Lucky Number Slevin =)

ICWTR Review & Stills & Portraits
October 14th, 2009 | Posted by Annie |
This one is a bit negative:
Something seems to have gone terribly wrong in the making of I Come with the Rain, an undeniably unique but nearly incoherent Hong Kong-set thriller starring Josh Hartnett and a handful of Asian stars. This handsomely produced feature from Scent of Green Papaya director Tran Anh Hung looks good, but its story rapidly disintegrates after the second reel. Too cryptic and poorly executed to appeal to either mainstream or specialty audiences, the film could struggle to find distributors willing to release it in Western countries despite Hartnett in the lead role.

New IWTCR Poster & Cocktail Party
September 11th, 2009 | Posted by Annie |
This is gunna be one of those epic long posts. Josh attended a GQ and Dior Hommes cocktail party on Cooper Square Hotel Penthouse to honor Kris Van Assche. It seems that Josh is trying to keep it low-key now.
At the Cooper Square Hotel, guests gathered for a rooftop fete thrown by GQ for Dior Homme artistic director Kris Van Assche.
Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen joined a slew of television actors, including Chace Crawford and Taylor Momsen of “Gossip Girl” and Mischa Barton of “The Beautiful Life” for the al fresco dinner, but Josh Hartnett left before everyone was seated, explaining he’s laying low this fashion week. “I did it when I first got here and it was exciting being a guy at the shows around the girls,” he said. “But now I stay away.”

Korea has released it’s official poster for ‘I Come with the Rain’. It looks really cool. They didn’t use the same cross concept as the previous posters we’ve seen. The same picture is used for Josh and Kimura as the Japanese poster, but a different image for Lee Byung Hun.

Intense images of actors Josh Hartnett, Lee Byung Hun and Takuya Kimura are exuding such overwhelming attention in the Korean poster for ‘I Come With The Rain’ set to premiere in the 14th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF 8-16 October) coinciding the nationwide release in the country on October 15.
The poster is divided into three parts, each with a piece of beauty in the critical state of the three men being featured in the movie by focusing on the undeniably intense eyes expression from all of them.
