| Trivia |
+ The film was released (2001) three years after filming
initially began (1998).
+ Considered to be one of the biggest box office disasters of all time.
("Pluto Nash" (2002) is the largest in terms of financial loss with a budget
of $100 million and a domestic gross of $4.41 million) Town & Country cost
around $90 million to make, and it pulled in only $6.7 million
[domestically] at the box office.
+ The production was hounded by re-shoots, rewrites, recasting, bad advance
press, and an increasing budget.
+ 'Gerard Depardieu' was cast but had to replaced by Garry Shandling because
of an road accident
+ The winter mountain scenes (filmed in Sun Valley, Idaho) started filming
in the early winter. Unfortunately, there was no snow on the ground at the
time. Several scenes were filmed with manmade snow. After filming these
scenes, over a foot of natural snow feel the next day. Some of the scenes
were re-shot in the "natural" background. |
| Goofs and Mistakes |
+ Continuity: In the frontal shot of the
Claybourne's house while everyone is in bed, there are no tire tracks in the
snow. But when Porter sneaks out of the house a while later, there are fresh
tire tracks from his SUV already leading away from the house.
+ Continuity: When the Claybournes arrive at the cabin in their
Hummer, Mr. Clayboure gets out with his shotgun, walks toward the cabin and
shoots the bear suit. When we cut to Mrs. Claybourne's reaction, the shotgun
is leaning against the rear tire.
+ Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Porter and Griffin are having
lunch in the hotel the girl (who becomes Porter's first affair) is playing a
double bass in the lobby. The soundtrack music, apart from being very
obviously not synchronised with what she is playing, is a viola or possibly
violin - definitely not a bass. |
| Quotes |
+ Porter: I understand that you were an intimate
of Hemingway's.
Eugenie's Father: Intimate? Is that some kind of homo thing?+
Eugenie: Mother, I think you really have a problem.
Eugenie's Mother: You're damned right I have a problem. He won't do
it to me anymore. Yes, his limp carrot is the root of all my problems. All
my doctors tell me so. Every motherfucking one of them.
[Raises glass]
Eugenie's Mother: Fucking. Going upstairs.
