Trivia
+ The story was inspired by the article "Resurrecting the Champ" by J.R. Moehringer which appeared in the Los Angeles Times Magazine in 1997; although the article indeed purportedly focused on Bob Satterfield, there are various other differences with the true story. Moehringer, who had already won a Pulitzer Prize, had no children, and his father was not well-known though he did abandon his family when the writer was an infant.
+ Like Erik Kernan, JR Moehringer never got to know his father.
+ Producer Marc Frydman, who had worked with Lurie on "The Contender" and later in "Commander in Chief", was certain that Rod Lurie was the perfect candidate to direct this movie.
+ Director Rod Lurie used to be an entertainment journalist and boxed at West Point.
Quotes
+ Champ: I'm not a bum; just homeless.

+ Champ: I'm about 60 percent

+ Erik Kernan: A writer like a boxer, must stand alone... the truth is revealed and there is no where to hide

+ Ralph Metz: But you copy, it's unimpressive, a lot of typing not much writing.

+ Ralph Metz: Truth is I forget your pieces when I'm reading them. If this is the best you can do, i'm not going to complain but i know you can do alot better
Erik Kernan: Why is that?
Ralph Metz: Because of your name

+ Erik Kernan: I could kiss you right now
Polly: I could sue you

+ Erik Kernan: This article is my title shot

+ Champ: You ask the questions, I answer

+Andrea Flak:  You're on your way to a bullet sir, Erik

+ Teddy: Erik Kernan, cool

+ Erik Kernan: Are you pretty proud of me?
+ Teddy: Real proud

+ Champ: Your dad, he ain't perfect, one day, he's going to get his shot.

+ Joyce Kernan: You let me down and you let everyone else on this paper down.

+ Champ: I hope if one day god willing your son does for you, what you did for me

+ Erik Kernan: It's not really that cool to go to celebrities in public.
Teddy: But he's not a celebrity, he's your friend.

+ John Elway: Do you play football?
+ Teddy: Yea. Except my hand is not big enough to lift a real football.
+ John Elway: Let's see...Ahh, I'll give you three years. Your hands were a lot bigger than mine when I was at your age.
